Dear Parents,
This week your child begins a new Bible unit called Jesus Loves Everyone. The unit begins with the account of Jesus and the children, found in Matthew 19:13-15.
Jesus preached from town to town throughout the entire region of Galilee in what is modern-day Israel. He soon became famous for His preaching and miracles. People flocked to see Him and to hear Him teach. Some of these people were parents, just like you!
These parents wanted Jesus to touch their children and to bless them, similar to the way people today hold up their babies for politicians to kiss. The parents probably did not know that Jesus is the Son of God, but they did know that Jesus cared about common, ordinary folks. Jesus’ disciples saw that Jesus was busy teaching adults when the families with children approached Him. Unlike Jesus, the disciples placed little importance on Jesus’ spending time with children and tried to send the parents and their children away.
When Jesus realized what was happening, He called for the children to come to Him, took the children up in His arms, and blessed them. He reminded the people that a having a childlike faith is essential to their relationship with God.
This Bible truth gives you an opportunity to think about and to discuss with your child the value God places on children. They are incredibly important to Him! God desires that everyone, children and adults alike, have a relationship with Him. Let your child know how important it is for you and your family to spend time with God. Thank you for helping your child learn the Bible truth.
Things to talk about at home after the Bible Lesson:
- Do you know an important person?
- Why is that person important to you?
- What did Jesus do to show that children are important?
- How can you tell Jesus that you love Him?
- How was the way that Jesus treated children different from the way that Jesus’ friends treated children?
