Dear Parents,
This week your child will learn the Bible truth of Joseph and his brothers, found in the book of Genesis, chapters 37-46.
The biblical account of Joseph is a favorite of children and adults alike. Joseph is famous for his multicolored coat and his rise from the pit to the palace. Despite his brothers’ hatred and betrayal, and his false imprisonment, Joseph resolved to do the right thing. God honored that resolve and worked through Joseph to accomplish His plans.
God molded Joseph’s character. As a slave, he learned to be a responsible steward of his master’s material goods. In the helplessness of imprisonment, he abandoned his anger and the impulse to seek revenge. Through the hard circumstances that came into his life, Joseph learned to trust God.
Joseph’s faithfulness and patience were rewarded. Not only did God bless Joseph, He also used Joseph to bless others—all of Egypt and all of his family. Joseph saw God’s hand working purposefully, even in tough times, and forgave his brothers with the words, but as for you, you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good (Genesis 50:20a).
As parents, you are molding your child’s character. Many times parents wish to spare their child from negative experiences, but they are not doing their child any favors by sheltering him or her from all difficulties in life.
It is important for parents to assign simple chores to their child, to say no at times, and to allow their child to work through many of his or her own problems.
Thank you for helping your child to learn the Bible truth.
Things to talk about at home after the Bible Lesson:
- What are some words that you can use to say that you are sorry for something you have done?
- Why is it important to forgive someone who has hurt you?
