Bible Lesson Week of Nov 16

Dear Parents,
This week’s lesson is about Jesus’ feeding of 5,000 people. The Scripture reference for this lesson is John 6:1-13. The same biblical account can also be found in Matthew 14:13-21, Mark 6:30-44, and Luke 9:10-17.

The message begins with Jesus speaking to a huge crowd of people. As He speaks, the time grows late, and the people grow hungry! Jesus’ disciples urge Him to send the people away to their homes. But Jesus has other plans. You give them something to eat, Jesus tells them.

Naturally, the disciples are aghast. How can they comply with Jesus’ command? It would take a fortune to feed such a crowd. This is an impossible request! But then Andrew steps up. A boy in the crowd has food. It’s just a small meal – two fish and five little loaves. Not much, but it’s something. Jesus uses the boy’s fish and loaves to feed the 5, 000 people. After everyone had eaten as much as they wanted, Jesus has the disciples collect the leftovers – 12 baskets full!

As a parent, there are lessons you can learn from this biblical account. You may think that you never have enough time, patience, or resources. But that is not the case. When you place your faith in Jesus, even a little bit is enough. Take a little bit of time to pray with your child before bed.

Think about it. Does your child really need a toy box full of toys or a closet filled with clothes? Consider how you might partner with other parents to trade toys and outgrown clothing. What you have and can give your child is enough.

Thank you for helping your child to learn the Bible truth!

Things to talk about at home:

  1. Have you ever given something to a friend? What did you give? How did your friend feel about your gift?
  2. Jesus cared about the hungry people. He fed 5,000 people. How does He care for you?
  3. The boy in the Bible truth gave his lunch to Jesus. Jesus used the food to feed lots of people. What can you share with others? How will you share?
