Bible Lesson Week of February 8

Dear Parents,

This week your child is encountering a memorable example of faith and trust in God – David’s battle with the giant Goliath, which is found in 1 Samuel 17. Though this event contains so much adventure that your child will readily remember the storyline, David’s unswerving faith in God’s power is what saves the day.

As this week goes by, encourage your child to compare David’s tough and scary times with your own family’s struggles. Your child might be facing a new location, an unpleasant person, or an unpredictable event, yet he or she can remember David’s faith in God and recall that Jesus is available to calm and comfort children all day, every day.

You can model this confidence in God by admitting when something is tough or scary for you while demonstrating how to pray and look to God at the same time.

David also demonstrated his close connection to his family and his faith in God through his daily tasks. David’s responsibility was to care for his family’s sheep. In order to do that well, he had to protect them from wild animals.

David also obeyed his father’s request to take food to his brothers, who were serving as soldiers in Israel’s army, and traveled the long distance to accomplish this task. Your child can also learn to trust God when he or she is faced with a task that may seem too big.

Thank you for helping your child learn the Bible truth.
